Working Wednesday - Appreciation gifts

It is that time again.

Time to tell everyone we work with how much we appreciated their hard work all year.

Bus Drivers

For the bus drivers I saw several cute ideas on Pinterest.

Miles and Miles  -  I really thought this saying was cute.

What I ended up doing was sort of a combination of these.

Make it Monday - Perpetual Calendar

I went to the Country Loft today in Lehi.  It was the first time I had been there and I was blown away by how much stuff they have.  I am not a big scrapbooker but they also had a lot of other craft materials and some classroom stuff.  I will definitely be headed back here.

On this trip I bought the perpetual calendar kit.  It comes with the blocks and the vinyl cut outs for the numbers and the months.

I have wanted to make one of these for a long time.

I started working on just 6 months.  I started with July and worked forward from there.  I started with July and figured maybe by then I would have the rest of it finished.

After modpodging (is that a word?) and letting it dry ALL the way I put on the vinyl cut outs.  I can se some are hidden by the pattern on the paper but most turned out cute.

I started working on the numbers and I had to make myself a cheat sheet for which number goes on which block.

Left               Right
0                     0
1                      1
2                     2
3                     4
5                     6
7                      8

Hopefully I did it right and maybe it will help someone else.

I will post the final product when I finish it.  Hopefully soon.

Working Wednesday - Opposite Blocks

In our classroom we have been talking about construction, houses and building.  One of our goals of this week was opposites.  Opposites seem to be something we have trouble with this year.

So, how do we put these things together to make an engaging preschool activity?

Unfortunately my iPad lost the pictures.  I am sure it is the iPads fault and not mine!   But that means I do not have a picture of this great activity to share.  Sorry.

If you haven't heard of TeachersPayTeachers yet get ready for some fun.

I got these opposite cards from Fran Lafferty on TeachersPayTeachers.

I will tell you a secret......I accidentally printed a set in black and white!  Crazy right?

But I was able to turn it into a matching game as well as an opposites activity.  So it did double duty.

Food Friday - Salad Dressing and Groceries

Here are a few of my Pinterest finds.

Cabbage - This is almost exactly how I cook  brussel sprouts so it should be a good way to try cabbage too.

Lemon Cookies - I made these a while ago and loved them.  Believe it or not it was the first time i had used cornstarch in a cookie recipe.

I made this salad dressing for the second time.
Two times of course means that we liked it.

I added jalapeƱo and avocado this time and it was still great.

I also went shopping at Costco again this weekend and found something new to try,

I have tried their dill and green onion dips before and loved them with veggies and gorilla chips.

I am hoping this is just as delicious for my veggies this week..

I don't know about you but I do better eating fresh fruit and veggies if I wash and cut them when I bring them home.  When they are prepped and in the fridge they are easy to grab and go.
So I also spent some time washing and cutting fruits and veggies for the week.

Make it Monday - Diaper Cake

My first solo diaper cake!!!!

Can you feel the excitement?    Well, I could at 10 o'clock at night when I finished it.

First - diapers of course!  I used a small pack of newborn diapers and a larger pack of size 1 diapers.

Next start rolling up all those diapers.  This is an easy task that doesn't require much brain power.  Good for late at night.

Roll

Roll

Roll

And

Roll some more

When you are ready start standing up those cute little diapers on whatever platform you are using.

I bought this cute little cake holder at Hobby Lobby.

I did use a little math at this point to figure out how many rows I could make and still have some left for the next level.

So, there is the bottom layer of my beautiful cake.

I don't have any pictures of the building of the next two levels but I am sure you can figure it out.

I will tell you that I used the last of the size 1 diapers together in the middle and then started with the newborns around it.

Time to break out the glue gun!!!
Measure out your ribbon and carefully glue the ribbon together (without touching the diapers) and getting it tight enough to help hold everything together.

I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial for a diaper cake.  Good luck to you and let me know how it goes.
